Oishii, is a restaurant concept located in the district of Salhiya in Kuwait. Sheltered away from the chaos of the city, Oishii stands as a sanctuary welcoming those yearning for an escape to experience a fine Japanese dining experience.

With the exterior façade acting as a clue as to what is revealed inside, the materials applied captures passing goers. Materials such as black steel, chrome and wood are exposed and implemented on to the extraordinary interior of the site.

The interior design of this restaurant is mainly focused on the ceiling given the nature of the small space. The complex ceiling design is divided into three different layers. The first layer is the untreated concrete ceiling with imbedded warm halogen spotlights. The second layer is shifted laser-cut wooden paneling floating in between which contributes as a main design aesthetic to the design of the space. The third layer is suspended chrome finished rods connected to the untreated concrete ceiling providing directed light to the dining tables of the restaurant. All three different layers combined, project patterns of shadows and light bringing a sensuous ambiance to the space.

The orientation of the space is integrated in to three parts; the dining area and sushi bar which are open to the public; and the private kitchen. Due to space constraints, contrasting elements in material such as rough finished granite is applied adjacently to black mirrored walls to visually expand the space.
